Ambassador Johnson welcomes Sheinbaum to US for World Cup final, praises tournament organization

U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson welcomed Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to the United States for the 2026 World Cup final, emphasizing the strong coordination and cooperation between the two governments, along with Canada, in organizing the tournament.

"It is always a pleasure to welcome President Claudia Sheinbaum to the United States," the diplomat stated on social media. He added that the 2026 FIFA World Cup demonstrated the coordination and cooperation that U.S. President Donald Trump and President Sheinbaum continue to foster. Johnson recognized the efforts of the three host countries, noting that the United States, Mexico, and Canada made "the biggest and most memorable sporting event in history" possible.

The ambassador's post followed Sheinbaum's confirmation that she would attend the World Cup final after receiving an invitation from President Trump. Sheinbaum indicated that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney would also participate, underscoring the significance of the three host nations' presence as a symbol of their ongoing diplomatic coordination and collaboration.
