America's Cup in Naples: Boat spectator spots already in high demand

Spectators eager to witness the America's Cup pre-regattas from the sea in Naples will need to navigate a set of stringent regulations. The event, scheduled from September 24-27, requires all interested boat owners to register on the official America's Cup website to access designated viewing areas along the race courses.

The countdown has begun with 50 days remaining until the pre-regattas, marking a period of intense organization and anticipation for maritime enthusiasts. Races are set to commence daily at 2 PM and are expected to conclude around 4 PM, with three races planned within the designated racecourse in the Gulf.

Strict rules govern the participation of spectator vessels. Only motorboats are allowed, and anchoring is prohibited except in emergency situations. All spectator boats must remain mobile, ready to reposition if racecourse boundaries change. Vessels without a motor or propulsion system will not be permitted to join the spectator fleet.

Safety is paramount, with all participating boats mandated to have a VHF radio tuned to channel 69 and remain attentive to instructions from event marshals or maritime authorities. Spectators are advised that normal port entry and exit procedures may be altered, with specific protocols to be issued by the port authority. Designated race areas and spectator zones will be marked by buoys by 12:30 PM on race days, and spectator boats are urged to reach their assigned areas by 1:30 PM to minimize wake, maintaining a speed no greater than 5 knots.
