American football action returns to Panama as the Panama Major Football League (PMFL) launches its highly anticipated 2026 season this Saturday, August 15. The kickoff event, set to take place at the Emilio Royo Stadium in Juan Díaz, promises a day filled with excitement, featuring an international matchup and the debut of new teams.

Fans can enter the stadium starting at 4:30 p.m. for a double-header that organizers expect to deliver non-stop thrills. PMFL President Gino Gómez Pedriel expressed enthusiasm for the season's start, calling it a "before and after" moment for American football in the country. "Not only do we welcome a new local franchise that expands our talent base, but we also cross borders and include a foreign franchise, a historic event," Pedriel stated.

The inaugural jornada begins at 5:00 p.m. with the Águilas Doradas facing the Colón Eagles. This marks the debut of the Águilas Doradas in the PMFL, led by Coach Carlos "Poty" Flores. The Colón Eagles, boasting a roster composed of 95% local talent from Colón province, will be under the guidance of new Head Coach Sterry Etheridge, aiming to showcase their energy and commitment to developing the sport.

The main event, scheduled for 8:00 p.m., will be an international showdown between the Raptors, the current league champions, and the Hunters de Medellín from Colombia. The Raptors, reinforced for the season, will defend their title under Coach Raúl "Gator" Esquivel. The Hunters de Medellín, coached by José López, are making their official debut in the Panamanian league, eager to prove their competitive mettle. The PMFL extends a special invitation to the Colombian community residing in Panama to attend the event.
