American Sculptor Jonathan M. Davis Exhibits Glass Works on Krk Island

American sculptor Jonathan M. Davis is showcasing his latest body of work in an exhibition titled "Liminal Space" on Croatia's Krk Island. The exhibition, which opened on August 7 at the Decumanus Gallery in Krk, features a collection of glass objects that delve into the concept of transitional or "liminal" spaces.

This exhibition is the final chapter of the LINK IN ART 12 project, themed "Return to the Organic – New Expressionism." Curator Luiza Ritoša, who also authored the catalog texts, explains that Davis uses glass to explore the ambiguity and uncertainty inherent in liminal states. The forms of his works often resemble neural cells, organic structures, flowers, or fireworks, inviting diverse interpretations.

Davis's artistic practice is influenced by his experiences with frequent travel and a continuous re-examination of identity. He views liminal spaces as transitional states marked by uncertainty but also as fertile ground for new possibilities and inspiration, reflecting the fundamental nature of change in human life. His fascination with rhythm, stemming from his background in jazz, is evident in the repetitive processes that shape his glass creations.

Davis has a notable artistic background, having collaborated with renowned groups like Cirque du Soleil and participated in a residency at the Toledo Museum of Art. He currently resides on Krk Island, where he is developing his studio and collaborating with the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka on flame glassworking programs. The "Liminal Space" exhibition will remain open until August 27.

Liminal spaces reflect transitional states characterized by uncertainty and ambivalence, but at the same time represent a space of new possibilities and inspiration and remind us that constant change is a fundamental characteristic of human life.
