Américo Villarreal begins tour of all 43 Tamaulipas municipalities in Nuevo Laredo

Américo Villarreal began his tour of Tamaulipas in Nuevo Laredo, launching a month-long visit to all 43 municipalities that will take him across the state through Sept. 28. The governor plans to attend about two municipal government reports each day, examining progress, unfinished commitments and work underway in each region.

The tour opened in one of Tamaulipas' main economic and logistics centers. Nuevo Laredo is set to receive part of nearly 8.9 billion pesos in state and federal investment, including projects tied to customs, rail and border infrastructure. Plans include the headquarters of the National Customs Agency, the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train and modernization of International Bridge III.

More than 57,000 people in Nuevo Laredo benefit from the federal and state Welfare Programs, according to the report. Their annual economic spillover has grown by 190 percent. Villarreal said the city’s strategic position should translate into broader gains beyond logistics and trade.

After starting the tour in Nuevo Laredo, the governor visited Nueva Ciudad Guerrero, Mier and Miguel Alemán. In Nueva Ciudad Guerrero, he reported that cumulative state and federal investment had reached nearly 649 million pesos. The funds have supported social programs and projects involving water, drainage, roads, education, health and security.
