Amosun backs Tinubu’s second term

Former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has publicly reaffirmed his strong support for President Bola Tinubu's pursuit of a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections. Amosun declared that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) across Nigeria are unified in their backing for the president's re-election ambition.

Today is for the President and we all must come out to show and demonstrate that yes, we are for the President, we are for APC, and that’s why I am here.

Amosun made these remarks during the APC presidential primary held at Ward 6, Itoko, Abeokuta, where party faithful gathered in significant numbers. Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, the former governor characterized the exercise as a special occasion for party members to publicly demonstrate their loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC. "Today is for the President, and we all must come out to show and demonstrate that yes, we are for the President, we are for APC, and that’s why I am here," Amosun stated.

You know we have done the one for the governor, so all of us are in sync, we have all taken that position. So, it is just to reaffirm what we have done and that is what happened.

He explained that key stakeholders within the party had already reached a consensus to support Tinubu's re-election, viewing the primary as a formal reaffirmation of this widespread agreement. Amosun also commended the party supporters for their peaceful conduct and enthusiastic participation, interpreting the large turnout as a reflection of the president's growing acceptance among Nigerians. He further emphasized the unity within the APC, stating that members were "speaking with one voice" regarding Tinubu's return in 2027, with "no dissension."

We are orderly and that is what it should be. All of us are speaking with one voice, no dissension. Everybody has agreed that yes, we want our President to return.
