Anambra begins free fibroid surgeries under Soludo healthcare initiative

Anambra State is providing free fibroid surgeries for women through a healthcare outreach organized by Friends of Soludo, coinciding with the birthdays of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo. The initiative, which commenced at Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital, is part of a broader medical program offering free screenings, treatments, and surgeries to ease healthcare costs for residents.

The program includes free myomectomy for women diagnosed with fibroids and ovarian cysts, alongside other surgical interventions at various designated hospitals throughout the state. Dr. Dozie Udeolisa, Chief Medical Officer of Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital, highlighted the life-changing impact of the initiative, noting that fibroid surgery is often financially inaccessible for many families, leading to prolonged suffering.

Fibroid surgery is often beyond the financial reach of many families, causing patients to live with pain and complications for years. The free surgery programme initiated by ‘Friends of the Governor’ is removing that barrier by providing treatment at no cost.

He confirmed that Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital is a key center for the exercise, where registered and screened patients are undergoing surgery. A team of experienced medical professionals, including surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses, has been assembled to ensure the safety and success of the procedures.

The outreach also extends to free cataract surgeries and glaucoma screenings at the Anambra State Specialist Eye Centre in Nise, as well as free hernia surgeries at General Hospital, Umueri. Officials encourage eligible residents to take advantage of these completely free services, assuring them of quality medical care throughout the program. The initiative is presented as a practical demonstration of compassion and a commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in Anambra State.
