Anambra FA to stage novelty match in memory of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah

The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) is set to organize a novelty football match on Saturday, August 1st, to honor the memory of its late former chairman, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. The event marks the second anniversary of his death and is part of activities aimed at celebrating his significant contributions to football development in Anambra State.

Senator Ubah, widely known as ‘Ebubechukwu Uzo’, served as the ANSFA Chairman from 2016 to 2020. This period is recognized as one of substantial progress for football in the state. During his leadership, he launched the 'One Family, One Footballer' initiative, a grassroots program designed to identify and nurture young talent across Anambra. This program gained national recognition and was even showcased at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in attendance.

Further highlighting his impact, Ubah secured a notable partnership in August 2016 between his club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, and English Premier League side West Ham United F.C. He described this agreement at the time as a pivotal step toward transforming his club, Nigerian football, and the sport across Africa.

Beyond administrative achievements, Ubah also led FC Ifeanyi Ubah to victory in the 2016 President Federation Cup. The team defeated Nasarawa United 5-4 on penalties in a thrilling final, earning Nigeria a spot in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup. The businessman and politician passed away on July 27, 2024. The ANSFA, under the leadership of Chikelue Iloenyosi, has finalized arrangements for the novelty match to celebrate Ubah's enduring legacy.
