Anambra records 22.8% revenue performance in first half of 2026, spends ₦13.79 billion on security

Anambra State's revenue performance in the first half of 2026 stood at a mere 22.8%, generating ₦174.54 billion against a projected annual budget of ₦766.37 billion. This shortfall is detailed in the state’s second-quarter budget performance report, which also revealed a total expenditure of ₦143.63 billion during the period, representing 18.7% of the annual budget. The expenditure was split between ₦40.79 billion for recurrent costs and ₦102.84 billion for capital projects.

The report highlighted a significant concentration of capital spending, with the Ministry of Works receiving the largest allocation at ₦79.02 billion. The Ministry of Health followed with ₦10.53 billion. Notably, some sectors, such as the Ministry of Agriculture, received no capital releases despite a budgeted provision.

Security spending amounted to ₦13.79 billion, driven by ongoing challenges including killings, cult violence, kidnapping, and attacks by criminal and separatist groups. The largest component was the security vote, with ₦13.40 billion released for operations against a budget of ₦20.80 billion.
