Andre Fu reflects on 25 years of design and his enduring Singapore connection

For more than 15 years, the marble mosaics, crystal chandeliers and 18-metre atrium at The Fullerton Bay Hotel have continued to express Andre Fu’s design language.

The Hong Kong designer is marking the 25th anniversary of Andre Fu Studio this year. His approach to modern luxury relies on understatement, inviting guests to linger inside spaces shaped by proportion, light, texture and craftsmanship rather than heavy ornament.

His portfolio includes The Upper House, Claridge’s Spa and its duplex penthouse suite, Dusit Thani Bangkok, Waldorf Astoria Osaka and Capella Taipei. His Singapore projects include The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Andaz Singapore and Capella Singapore.

A sanctuary…choreographed to feel quietly cinematic

His newest project is Bespoke Gloucester House, which opened on July 24 at Hongkong Land’s Landmark development in Central, Fu’s home city. The private space is reserved for members of Landmark’s Bespoke loyalty programme.

Fu drew on the Gloucester Hotel, established in 1932 and once a prominent social address for Central’s business and social elite. The library, bar, terrace and salons reinterpret elements of the old hotel in a contemporary setting. Fu described the concept as “a sanctuary…choreographed to feel quietly cinematic”, with the project seeking to create a modern expression of old-world charm.
