Android 17 Teased as Google Rolls Out 7 New Features for Current OS

Google has rolled out its June 2026 Android feature update, introducing seven significant enhancements across various applications. These updates focus on improving user experience through advanced scam detection, robust security measures, AI-powered search capabilities, smarter photo management in Google Photos, and seamless cross-platform file sharing.

A key highlight is the "scam call detection" feature in Google Phone. This function uses RCS encryption to verify incoming calls, alerting users if a contact's number is being impersonated. The feature requires Android 12 or higher, specific Google apps, and both parties to have RCS messaging enabled. It is initially available on Pixel phones.

Google's "Circle to Search" now supports multi-object recognition, allowing users to search for entire outfits from a single photo, not just individual items. This feature, previously limited to high-end Pixel and Samsung models, is now available on all devices supporting Circle to Search with Android 14 or later.

Google Photos introduces an "AI digital wardrobe" that analyzes outfit photos to catalog clothing items and offer personalized styling advice. This feature will launch in the US, India, and Brazil next week for devices running Android 10 and above.

The "Personal Safety" app expands its features for children and teens. Younger users can display medical information and set emergency contacts on their lock screen, while teens gain access to safety checks and real-time location sharing. This aims to enhance family safety monitoring.

Google Play Books integrates Gemini AI, offering features like "Catch me up" for quick content recaps and AI-powered Q&A for selected English books.

Cross-platform file sharing between Android and iPhone is further improved through expanded Quick Share and AirDrop compatibility. More Android brands, including Vivo, Oppo, OnePlus, Honor, and Xiaomi, are joining Google and Samsung in supporting this feature.

Additionally, Gboard's Emoji Kitchen receives new combinations for more expressive sticker creation. Google also teased upcoming features for Android 17, indicating its development is progressing.
