Ankara Mayor Yavaş announces tender process for new 9-kilometer metro line

Ankara is set to expand its public transportation network with a new metro line extension. The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) announced that the tender process for the M2 Koru–Yaşamkent and Koru–Bağlıca Metro Extension Project will begin in July. This marks a significant step in strengthening the capital's transportation infrastructure.

Mayor Mansur Yavaş shared the update on social media, confirming the project's inclusion in the Investment Program. The extension will add 9.36 kilometers of double-track lines, featuring five new stations. Once completed, the journey between Koru and Yaşamkent is expected to take approximately 9 minutes and 53 seconds, while the Koru to Bağlıca route will be reduced to about 9 minutes and 23 seconds. Trains on this line will operate at intervals of roughly 2 minutes and 6 seconds, with a capacity of 44,550 passengers per hour in one direction.

In addition to the M2 line, the ABB is also advancing preparations for other crucial metro projects. These include the M5 Kızılay–Dikmen Metro Line and the M6 Çayyolu–Sincan connection line. The tender process for these lines will commence once they are officially included in the Presidential Investment Program. The expansion aims to enhance connectivity and reduce travel times for Ankara residents.

We are going out to tender for construction with our own resources in July. For our project, which consists of a double line with a total length of 9.36 kilometers, 5 new stations will be built. Also, preparations are continuing at full speed for the M5 Kızılay–Dikmen Metro Line and the M6 Çayyolu–Sincan connection line.
