Another 10 Jovina Grammar School teachers dismissed after protest

Ten more teachers at Jovina Grammar School in Novi Sad lost their jobs after attending a protest in support of colleagues who had previously been dismissed, according to information obtained unofficially by N1. The teachers held fixed-term contracts.

N1 reported that students from Jovina Grammar School had been moved to the third floor of the Mechanical School in Novi Sad. They protested outside the office of director Radivoj P. Stojković, making noise with whistles and vuvuzelas and chanting, among other things, “Resign, resign.”

Stojković declined to comment on the reports of new dismissals, saying he was in a meeting and would respond later. Professor Rima Grujić previously told N1 that 10 teachers had been called to meetings after the support rally, and that their employment contracts were not renewed. At that point, she said, one teacher had attended a meeting and received a termination decision.

The latest dismissals follow earlier action at the school. Five teachers lost their jobs at the end of August, while five others had been suspended near the end of the previous school year. A court later returned four of those teachers, Marija Vasić, Rima Grujić, Jovan Travica and Dragan Vulić, to their posts. The school had still not issued them formal decisions confirming their return.
