Another city with a population of over 2 million to appear in Kazakhstan by 2050

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for urgent and intensive development of social and tourism infrastructure in Alatau, Kazakhstan, stating that "there have been no concrete results in this area so far." Speaking at a meeting on the city's development, Tokayev stressed that tourism is a key component of investment attractiveness, a sector he believes has been neglected.

According to the General Plan, Alatau's population is projected to surpass two million people by 2050. Tokayev warned that such rapid growth will place a "serious burden" on utility networks and social infrastructure. He pointed out the "very limited number of new social facilities" currently available, despite businesses expressing readiness to invest in infrastructure development.

The President emphasized that the Alatau Development Council and the city administration must establish clear rules for investment returns, complete with specific mechanisms and timelines. He also called for a fair distribution of burdens and risks associated with development projects.

Tokayev identified creating the most comfortable conditions for investors as a priority task. He further stressed the importance of ensuring high-quality organizational processes and building a sustainable ecosystem to attract and scale up investment inflows into the region. The focus is on creating an environment conducive to both population growth and economic development.
