Another SPS resignation as Paraćin official rejects the party’s direction

Andrija Radivojević, a senior Socialist Party of Serbia official from Paraćin, has resigned from every party position he held. His posts included membership of the SPS Executive Board and Main Board, leadership of the party’s municipal committee in Paraćin, and a seat in the Paraćin municipal assembly.

Radivojević said he had belonged to the SPS for 15 years and had spent almost as long on its Main Board. He pointed to his work leading the Paraćin committee, saying it achieved a result twice as strong as in the previous local elections when the party was experiencing a decline, and performed significantly above the SPS national average.

He said he had disagreed with the party’s direction for some time. Recent developments concerning Branko Ružić, he added, strengthened a decision he had already been considering.

“Regardless of whether I agree with his views, I believe that a serious political party must make room for different opinions, including disagreement with the leadership. In my view, a decision of this political weight should have been the subject of serious discussion by the Main Board, with Ružić present,” Radivojević said.

He stressed that leaving his party posts did not mean abandoning his political convictions. He said he remained committed to the socialist idea and the values that first led him into politics.
