Ante Žigman Appointed New Governor of Croatian National Bank

Ante Žigman is set to take the helm as the new governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB), succeeding Boris Vujčić. The decision was reportedly finalized during a parliamentary majority meeting on the morning of May 27th, following Vujčić's dismissal by the Parliament the previous day.

Žigman brings a wealth of experience to the central bank, having previously served as the president of the Management Board of the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA) since 2018. His responsibilities at HANFA encompassed the regulation and supervision of non-banking financial services, including capital markets, insurance, investment and pension funds, and virtual asset service providers. He has also held significant positions within European financial oversight bodies, including EIOPA and ESMA.

His career trajectory also includes substantial work within the Ministry of Finance, where he held positions such as assistant minister for macroeconomic analysis and planning and state secretary. Prior to his leadership at HANFA, Žigman spent a considerable part of his career at the HNB itself, working in the Governor's Office. He was reappointed to a second six-year term as HANFA president in February 2024. Žigman is also an accomplished academic, authoring numerous scientific and professional papers on fiscal policy and finance, and actively lecturing in economics and finance.
