Anthropic IPO could surpass SpaceX record, targeting $2 trillion valuation

Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence company and a major competitor to OpenAI, is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) that could break the record set by Elon Musk's SpaceX. Reports suggest Anthropic aims to raise over $100 billion, valuing the company at approximately $2 trillion. This valuation would place it among a select group of tech giants with decades of history, despite Anthropic being only five years old.

This potential IPO follows SpaceX's record-breaking public debut in June, which raised $85.7 billion and achieved a valuation of $1.77 trillion. Anthropic's IPO is anticipated for the fall, with a confidential filing made in June. The company may release its official filing in the coming weeks, offering the first public look at its financials.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has focused on tools for developers, such as its programming assistant Claude Code. This strategy has allowed it to dominate the lucrative AI segment. In the second quarter, Anthropic's sales more than doubled to $11.6 billion, surpassing OpenAI's $6.7 billion in the same period. However, like OpenAI, Anthropic is heavily in the red. Bloomberg reports that its net losses reached nearly $42 billion in 2025, a fivefold increase from the previous year. These losses stem from substantial investments required for talent acquisition and the construction of large data centers equipped with numerous AI chips. Additionally, Anthropic's premium pricing faces pressure from free Chinese AI models.
