Anti-party: Lagos PDP suspends Bode George, 23 others

A faction within the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has suspended former Deputy National Chairman Bode George and 23 other party members. The group cited alleged anti-party activities as the reason for the action.

The suspension was formally announced on Friday via a statement signed by the state's PDP disciplinary committee chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, and secretary, Desmond Agbo. The committee stated that the decision was necessary because the party could no longer tolerate behavior that sows disaffection among its members. This action followed a review of several petitions alleging breaches of the PDP constitution and anti-party conduct.

The disciplinary committee's resolution, stemming from a meeting on May 26, 2026, specifically addressed petitions against prominent figures and other members. The committee also reviewed and reaffirmed a prior suspension of Bode George by the party's National Executive Committee, confirming his continued suspension.

Among those suspended are Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, and Tunji Shele, among others. The committee also examined cases of members allegedly collaborating with rival parties or engaging in unauthorized political activities detrimental to the PDP's interests. All suspended members are barred from participating in party activities or representing the PDP in any capacity within the state. The party warned that legal measures might be pursued against any suspended member found acting contrary to its interests.

Bode George, a long-standing PDP figure in Lagos politics, has been involved in internal party disagreements in recent years. Attempts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, as his phone was unreachable and messages remained undelivered.
