Antioquian businessman Jaime Andrés Uribe appointed manager of 'Fondo Milagro' for earthquake reconstruction

Businessman Jaime Andrés Uribe Tamayo will lead the 'Fondo Milagro,' the newly established fund dedicated to rebuilding areas devastated by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10. Uribe, who was appointed president of ProColombia just last month, will now manage the critical reconstruction finances from Antioquia.

Billions of pesos have poured in from Colombian businesses and the international community following the disaster. While President Abelardo De La Espriella noted that current donations cover less than 10% of the total reconstruction costs, the efficient management of these incoming funds is paramount. The 'Fondo Milagro' will adopt a framework similar to the successful Fondo para la Reconstrucción del Eje Cafetero (Forec), which was implemented after the 1999 earthquake.

Minister of the Interior Rodrigo Lara confirmed Uribe's appointment, calling it 'fantastic.' Uribe brings over 25 years of experience in industrial, commercial, and manufacturing sectors, with a focus on company growth, internationalization, and market expansion. He is also a co-founder of Parce Rum, a premium Colombian rum brand exported to 15 countries.
