Former Ecuadorian football star Antonio Valencia has offered words of encouragement to the national team following their debut loss at the 2026 World Cup. Ecuador fell 1-0 to Ivory Coast in their opening match, a result that has prompted Valencia to rally behind the squad.

Valencia, who is attending the World Cup as a commentator, shared his message via social media the day after the defeat. He posted an illustration of the team alongside his supportive words, urging the players not to lose confidence despite the setback.

The match against Ivory Coast was decided by a late goal in the 89th minute from Amad Diallo. Ecuador had several clear chances to score, hitting the woodwork three times during the game, including shots from John Yeboah and Alan Minda in the first half, and Enner Valencia in the second half.
