Apapa Customs sets record with N323bn July revenue collection

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has announced an unprecedented revenue collection of 323 billion naira in July 2026, marking the highest monthly figure ever recorded by the command. The Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Isah, stated that this landmark performance underscores the strong results achieved under the leadership of Customs Area Controller Emmanuel Oshoba.

Oshoba attributed the record collection to a combination of factors, including policy support, operational reforms, and enhanced compliance across the command. He specifically commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the service management team for their dedication to modernizing the NCS. Oshoba noted that innovations introduced by the management team have streamlined activities and provided clear direction, leading to measurable results.

Key reforms contributing to this success include the improved performance of the B’Odogwu system, which has been enhanced after facing initial challenges. The One-Stop Shop initiative has also accelerated cargo delivery times, fostering a more predictable business environment that encourages legitimate importation. Furthermore, the Authorised Economic Operator framework, with over 200 beneficiaries, has positively impacted the command's revenue profile.

Intelligence-driven enforcement operations have also played a crucial role, with officers intensifying interventions to detect false declarations and ensure compliance with valuation principles, thereby protecting national revenue. Oshoba also acknowledged the enabling business environment created by President Bola Tinubu, particularly the relative stability in the foreign exchange market, which allows business operators to plan better and make informed decisions with greater confidence. He urged officers to examine their individual contributions beyond routine revenue generation.
