APC Cautions Fayemi Against ‘Demarketing’ Ruling Party, Advises Him to Defect or Face Sanction

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, cautioning him against making public statements that could harm the ruling party's reputation. Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the APC, stated that disciplinary measures might be imposed if Fayemi's comments are perceived as detrimental to the party's image.

This is not where the party has come from. We have lost our bearings and the vision of the founding fathers of this party.

Fayemi had recently expressed concerns during an interview, suggesting the APC had strayed from its founding principles. He criticized the party's increasing reliance on endorsements and consensus arrangements, warning that such practices could lead to internal conflicts ahead of future elections. Fayemi also voiced disapproval of party members rushing to the presidency for political favors, fearing it could cause internal strife.

In response, Basiru dismissed Fayemi's criticisms, advising him to leave the APC if he harbors such negative views. "We urge him that since he so much despises the party and wishes the party an implosion, he should go to where whatever he thinks his best ideas can be ventilated," Basiru said. He added that the APC would not hesitate to take disciplinary action for anti-party activities if Fayemi remained within the party while undermining its interests.

Basiru further alleged that Fayemi's remarks were linked to political realignments for the 2027 elections. He claimed Fayemi had been in contact with opposition figures and suggested his comments aimed to weaken the party, particularly during preparations for the upcoming Ekiti governorship election. Basiru stated that the APC has reliable information about Fayemi and his followers engaging with opposition elements.
