APC chieftain urges Kwara gov to reconcile aggrieved party members

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq faces calls to initiate reconciliation efforts within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party. Sola Ajimati, a former APC senatorial aspirant for Kwara South, issued an open letter on Monday highlighting growing internal divisions and unresolved primary election disputes.

As our great party looks ahead to future electoral cycles, including governorship and national elections, and in the wake of the emergence of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, as the APC governorship candidate, there is an increasing concern among stakeholders regarding perceived exclusion from critical party decision-making processes.

Ajimati warned that the party is approaching a critical juncture. He stressed the need for deliberate efforts to foster unity, inclusion, and broader stakeholder engagement to maintain cohesion ahead of future electoral contests. The appeal comes amidst political realignments following the emergence of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the party's governorship candidate and concerns about some members' participation in decision-making.

While acknowledging the strides recorded under your leadership, it is imperative to emphasise that sustaining and building upon these gains will require deeper unity, broader inclusion, and more deliberate consultation with all stakeholders across the party structure.

While acknowledging Governor AbdulRazaq's development contributions, Ajimati emphasized that sustaining these gains requires a more inclusive approach to party management. He pointed to the re-election of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji as an example of successful consultation and consensus-building. Conversely, he cited the electoral setbacks in neighboring Osun State, linked to internal disagreements within the ruling party, as a cautionary tale.

The re-election of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of Ekiti State stands as a strong testament to the power of unity, inclusion, consultation, and sustained stakeholder engagement.

The chieftain also revisited concerns surrounding the Kwara South Senatorial Primary Election held on May 18, 2026, in which he was an aspirant. This underscores the specific grievances fueling the call for reconciliation within the state's APC.
