APC declares Hamzat Lagos governorship candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has taken a decisive step towards the 2027 gubernatorial elections by officially declaring Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as its chosen candidate. This significant endorsement, conducted at the APC Secretariat in Acme, Ogba, was lauded by party officials as a testament to a peaceful and transparent electoral process.

Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, having satisfied the guidelines set out in the party’s constitution, is returned as the winner of the governorship primary and the APC candidate for the 2027 election

The primary election saw Hamzat achieve a resounding victory, garnering an overwhelming 657,917 votes from the 657,974 accredited votes cast. His challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, received a single vote, underscoring the party's strong consensus behind Hamzat's candidacy. Another aspirant, Samuel Ajose, had previously withdrawn from the race.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the APC National Governorship Election Committee, Gen. Jon Temlong (retd.), in the presence of prominent figures including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, party leaders, and key stakeholders. This display of unity and support from the party's hierarchy signals a robust campaign ahead for Hamzat.

In his acceptance speech, Hamzat expressed profound gratitude to the party leaders and supporters, extending special thanks to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his contributions to the state and the party. He also acknowledged the support from members of the National Assembly, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the electoral committee, and President Bola Tinubu for his leadership. Hamzat humbly accepted the candidacy, vowing to lead the party to victory in the upcoming elections.
