APC inaugurates Osun 2026 campaign council led by Uzodimma, Akpabio, Abbas

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to launch its National Campaign Council for the upcoming August 15 governorship election in Osun State. The inauguration is scheduled to take place in Abuja.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State will lead the council as chairman. He will be supported by co-chairmen including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced these appointments in a statement.

Mai Mala Buni, CON, Governor of Yobe State; H.E. Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, President of the Senate; and Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, GCON, Speaker of the House of Representatives, as Co-Chairman

Further appointments include Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, as deputy chairman, and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin as secretary. The APC has also established specialized sub-committees to manage various aspects of the campaign, such as election planning, finance, logistics, media, and mobilization efforts for different demographics.

The Osun governorship race is anticipated to be highly competitive. While traditionally a two-party contest, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has emerged as a significant third force. This shift is partly due to the ADC attracting disgruntled APC members, particularly loyalists of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and younger politicians seeking an alternative to the established political dynasties. Six parties are cleared to participate, but the contest is realistically expected to focus on three main contenders.

Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, serves as Deputy Chairman, while Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CON, Deputy President of the Senate, is the Secretary of the Council.
