APC leaders urge Osun voters to reject incumbent governor; Army warns troops on neutrality

As the August 15 governorship election in Osun State intensifies, prominent figures from the All Progressives Congress (APC) are rallying support for their candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. Governors Monday Okpebholo of Edo State and Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, along with Minister of Works David Umahi and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, have called on the state's residents to reject the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road and the reconstruction of the Gbongan-Osogbo Road, Oyetola, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, described the APC candidate as a competent, experienced, and visionary leader poised to transform the state. He emphasized that electing Oyebamiji would align Osun State with the federal government's infrastructure development agenda and reconnect it to the center of national progress. Minister of Works Umahi echoed this sentiment, referring to Oyebamiji as "President Tinubu’s political son" and asserting that an APC victory would foster stronger developmental partnerships, leading to improved infrastructure, job creation, and economic growth.

APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru urged the electorate to vote overwhelmingly for the APC, citing the visible achievements of the Tinubu administration in infrastructure nationwide. Governor Okpebholo stressed the importance of practical leadership and strategic planning in governance, while Governor Ododo encouraged support for the APC to deliver meaningful development. This concerted effort by APC leaders aims to persuade voters that their candidate offers the best path forward for Osun State.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has issued a directive to troops deployed for election security, emphasizing professionalism, political neutrality, and strict adherence to the Code of Conduct for military participation in election operations. Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, issued the warning. However, concerns regarding police neutrality have surfaced following allegations of arrests of Accord Party leaders, reportedly on the orders of the state Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan. Governor Adeleke has also urged Osun voters to defend their votes in the spirit of democracy and the national constitution.
