APC secretary seeks Adeleke’s cooperation to deliver 1.5 million Osun votes for Tinubu

Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress, visited Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke after months of political rivalry and urged cooperation ahead of the presidential election.

Basiru said Adeleke had told him during a closed-door meeting that he would not only endorse President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, but would also campaign vigorously for him. The APC official described the visit as an effort to bring the two political camps together in Osun.

The governor, during our closed-door meeting, has also said that not only is he endorsing the president, but he will also be on the field to campaign vigorously for President Bola Tinubu for the January 16th presidential election.

He estimated that the APC and Adeleke’s Accord Party together controlled close to one million votes, and said their cooperation could raise Tinubu’s total to about 1.5 million in the state. “You can even see from the last contest; my party performed creditably well in that election, scoring 46% of the votes. In between the Accord and the APC, we have close to one million votes, and with the presidential election, I think we should be looking, if we worked together, at about 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

The meeting followed Osun’s August 15 governorship election, which Adeleke won after a campaign marked by violence and sharp exchanges. APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji conceded defeat a day before Basiru’s visit. Basiru urged APC members to close ranks and work with other political stakeholders before the January 16 vote.
