APM Accuses Tinubu Government of Failing to Secure Nigeria, Claims More Than 600,000 Killed Since 2023

The Allied Peoples Movement has accused President Bola Tinubu’s government of failing to protect Nigerians and of trying to downplay the country’s insecurity.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, criticized Defence Minister Christopher Musa for saying security had improved under Tinubu. APM said Nigeria’s position in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index showed the opposite, claiming the country had risen two places to fourth from sixth in the 2025 index.

APM finds it deeply disappointing that a minister of the Federal Republic could appear on national television to make such claims at a time when millions of innocent Nigerians are being killed, kidnapped, displaced, and terrorised in various parts of the country.

The party said the government’s public claims ignored the suffering of people facing killings, kidnappings, displacement and terror. It alleged that more than 600,000 Nigerians had been killed during Tinubu’s first three years in office, while at least 2.2 million people, including women and children, had been abducted.

The minister’s comments also show that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress administration does not and cannot feel the pain and anguish of millions of Nigerian families whose lives have been permanently ruined in the last three years of Tinubu’s presidency, during which over 600,000 Nigerians have been killed and no fewer than 2.2 million others, including women and children, abducted.

APM said 600 people, mostly women, children and older people, were abducted the previous week from Dekera, Gidan-Zana and Sabon Gida villages in Niger State and remained in captivity. It also cited data from SBM Intelligence reporting that ransom payments exceeded 7.78 billion naira between July 2025 and June 2026.

The party accused the administration of being disconnected from conditions on the ground or deliberately manipulating public perceptions. It said the government had dismissed abduction, which APM called an act of terrorism, as a “family affair.” The party challenged Tinubu, Musa and other senior officials to travel by road without armed security details if the security situation had genuinely improved.
