Apple confirms September 9 launch event for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max

Apple has confirmed September 9 for its annual iPhone presentation, according to a post by outgoing CEO Tim Cook on X.

The event is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple could also unveil its first foldable phone, informally known as the iPhone Ultra. The standard iPhone 18, according to recent rumours, may arrive later.

The most concrete expectations concern hardware changes rather than a new exterior design. Apple is reportedly keeping the design introduced last year while upgrading the processor and the cameras on the Pro models. Rumoured features include an A20 chip that is 18% faster and 30% more efficient than its predecessor, 12 gigabytes of RAM across the range for the new Siri AI, and a variable-aperture main camera on the Pro and Pro Max.

The phones are also expected to have a smaller Dynamic Island. Battery capacity would remain close to last year’s level. The OLED displays are expected to retain their 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes, with 120Hz refresh rates, for the Pro and Pro Max respectively.

Apple has not announced prices. However, the report says component costs have risen by almost 40% in a year, partly because of the generative artificial-intelligence boom. The Pro models could therefore cost $100 to $150 more than the iPhone 17. The standard iPhone 18 could be delayed until February or March 2027, an unusual release schedule intended to give Apple’s more expensive models greater sales opportunity.
