Apple Pay Express Mode available on Singapore MRT and LRT, with full rollout planned by 2027

Singapore commuters can now tap into and out of the MRT and LRT with Apple Pay Express Mode, without waking or unlocking an iPhone or Apple Watch. They do not need to use Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode, making fare payments quicker.

The Land Transport Authority said the feature became available on the rail network in mid-August. On buses, however, Express Mode currently works only with enhanced card readers, which are being introduced progressively across the fleet.

The new readers have larger displays, sharper visuals and faster updates for SimplyGo transactions. They also allow commuters to tap anywhere on the screen to pay their fares.

The LTA said it is testing the readers under real-world operating conditions to assess their performance and reliability before expanding them across the fleet. It aims to make Apple Pay Express Mode available throughout Singapore's public transport network by the end of 2027, with more details to be released later.
