Architect of UK Government’s AI Strategy Joins Anthropic

Matt Clifford, who helped shape the UK government’s artificial intelligence strategy, has joined US startup Anthropic in a senior role, a year after leaving his position in Downing Street.

Clifford drafted the government’s AI action plan and advised both Keir Starmer and former prime minister Rishi Sunak. His move gives Anthropic a senior figure with direct experience of developing the UK’s approach to artificial intelligence.

A successful technology investor, Clifford became Starmer’s AI opportunities adviser last year. He resigned from the unpaid role six months later, citing personal reasons.
