A heated exchange erupted in the Argentine Senate between Senator Patricia Bullrich and former Governor Jorge Capitanich over the allocation of public lands. Bullrich accused Capitanich of processing the irregular transfer of 3,600 hectares to "friends of power." Clarín investigated the judicial record, which confirmed that Federal Judge Fernando Carbajal indicted Capitanich on July 16 in a case concerning the alleged irregular allocation of over 3,600 hectares of fiscal land during his tenure to a group of associates. The area is equivalent to about 20 percent of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The judge's 52-page ruling indicates Capitanich is indicted as an alleged co-author of fraud against public administration, abuse of authority, dereliction of duty, and incompatible negotiations with public office. Marta Soneira, former Minister of Territorial Development and Environment and former president of the Institute of Colonization of Chaco, is also a central figure in the investigation.
