Argentina's agricultural sector hits record high in June with 3% growth

Argentina's agricultural sector has achieved a new historical record, with activity surging 3% in June and marking a significant recovery for a cornerstone of the national economy. The Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario's (BCR) Agro-Industrial Chain Activity Index (IACA-BCR) reported this milestone, driven by advancements in agricultural tasks, growth in agro-industrial processing, and a rebound in exports.

This surge means the index surpassed its previous peak in February, reaching its highest level since records began. Nine of the twelve components within the index registered positive monthly changes. The agricultural sector itself saw a 4.1% increase from May, fueled by the harvest of major crops and the planting of wheat and barley.

Agro-industry also demonstrated a strong performance, with all milling-related activities showing monthly gains. Soy processing rose 2%, barley 1.3%, wheat 0.7%, and sunflower 0.6%. The recovery extended to the frigorific sector, with poultry slaughter up 1.2%, pork 1.1%, and beef showing a 0.9% improvement.

External trade played a crucial role, with exports from major agro-industrial complexes increasing by 1.2% in constant dollar terms, breaking a three-month decline. However, not all sectors experienced growth; milk production dipped 0.3%, and biodiesel and bioethanol saw slight decreases. The year-over-year comparison was also overwhelmingly positive, with 10 out of 12 IACA-BCR components exceeding June 2025 levels, particularly the agricultural component which grew 14.3% thanks to an exceptional 2025/26 campaign.
