Argentina’s Basketball Team Falls Short Against Powerful Canada in Qatar 2027 Qualifiers

Argentina led Canada by 17 points in Québec, but the advantage disappeared as the hosts rallied to win 97-92 in the Qatar 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

The visitors opened strongly and led 40-23 after effective team play. Canada gradually closed the gap through defensive pressure and outside shooting, although Argentina still held a 53-48 lead at halftime.

The game shifted after Gabriel Deck left with an apparent injury to his left wrist. Deck had scored 11 points and had again played a decisive role for Argentina. Canada took control in the third quarter and entered the final period ahead 73-69.

Canada led 87-76 with 3 minutes and 28 seconds remaining, but Argentina fought back. A Nicolás Brussino basket and two Nicolás Laprovíttola three-pointers cut the deficit to four points, at 88-84, with 1:44 left. Canada handled the closing minutes better and secured the win.

Laprovíttola led all scorers with 31 points, including eight three-pointers from 12 attempts and seven free throws from 10. Facundo Campazzo had a quieter game, scoring three points and providing five assists. Canada’s leading contributors were NBA players Nickeil Alexander-Walker, with 26 points, and Luguentz Dort, with 25. Canada leads Group F with eight wins, while Uruguay has six wins and two losses. Argentina is third, and qualifying resumes in November.
