Argentine car market sees price cuts in August amid sales slump

Argentina's automotive market is experiencing a significant downturn, with sales falling 12.8% year-on-year in the first seven months of 2026, totaling 339,359 units. This decline in demand is compounded by a surge in supply, largely driven by the influx of Chinese automotive brands expanding the variety of models available.

In response to this challenging scenario, manufacturers are implementing price stabilization strategies. Some are freezing prices, while others are making adjustments that fall below the current inflation rate. Dealerships are also contributing by offering prices lower than the official list prices to attract buyers.

To further boost sales and registrations, several automakers have introduced specific discounts on various models for August. Nissan is offering reductions on its Kicks SUV and Frontier pickup truck across multiple versions. The Chinese electric city car JMEV Easy 3, already one of the most affordable new cars in Argentina, saw its price reduced by $2,000 to $16,900 at the end of July.

Mitsubishi, part of the Antelo Group, is providing discounts on its Outlander and L200 models. Great Wall Motors (GWM), also under the Antelo Group umbrella, has applied bonuses to six of its models, including the Jolion Pro HEV Supreme and the Ora 3, both receiving $2,000 reductions. Other GWM models like the Poer pickup and the Tank 300 also feature discounts, aiming to make their offerings more competitive in the struggling market.
