Argentine F1 Driver Colapinto Slams Spain's World Cup Celebrations as 'Disgrace'

Argentine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto has sharply criticized Spain's celebrations following their World Cup victory, labeling them "a disgrace." His comments, made in conversation with ESPN journalist Juan Fossaroli, focused on what he perceived as a manufactured display of national pride.

Colapinto expressed disbelief at the sudden appearance of celebratory songs, stating, "They only put them on now when they win. They don't put them on before. A disgrace." He also described witnessing the burning of a Spanish flag and an attempt to burn an Argentine jersey bearing Lionel Messi's name, noting that the jersey initially resisted catching fire.

Despite his strong criticism of the celebrations, Colapinto, driving for Alpine, extended congratulations to Spain for winning the World Cup during the official press conference before the Hungarian Grand Prix. He also praised Argentina's national team and Messi, emphasizing his pride in his compatriots. "I know it's difficult as an Argentine. Spain deserved to win the World Cup. But I am proud of our national team and proud of Messi. I think all Argentines think like me," he stated.
