Argentine Livestock Market Sees Price Surge Amidst Limited Supply

The weekly trading at Argentina's Mercado Agroganadero de Cañuelas opened with a notable increase in prices, driven by scarce supply and robust competition from local industry and market operators. The General Index surged 10.16% from Friday's close, reaching 4051.253 pesos. The Novillo Index also saw a significant gain of 5.36%, moving from 4312.579 to 4543.981 pesos per kilo.

Novillos, representing 16.33% of the total sales with 951 head, achieved top prices, with some lots fetching 4800 pesos per kilo for animals weighing between 432 and 541 kg. The best cows commanded prices of 4100 pesos per kilo for 442 kg lots. Lighter weight categories also performed well, with novillitos reaching 5400 pesos per kilo for lots between 303 and 354 kg, and vaquillonas selling at 5450 pesos per kilo for 283 kg lots.

The market processed a total of 5855 animals, arriving in 158 trucks. The detailed breakdown of sales included 951 novillos, 1236 novillitos, 1763 vaquillonas, 1415 vacas, 268 conservas, and 190 toros. The average weight for all animals was 425 kilograms. The overall market performance indicates a strong demand and upward price trend for cattle in Argentina.
