Armed Attack at Quito Wholesale Market Leaves One Dead

A violent incident disrupted the usual activity at the Quito wholesale market on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Shortly after 11:00 AM, an armed attack took place within the market, located in the southern part of the city. The attack resulted in the death of one individual.

Emergency response teams, including the National Police, Quito Firefighters, and Metropolitan Control Agents, quickly arrived at the scene. Despite resuscitation efforts by firefighters, the victim was pronounced dead at the location. The Empresa Pública Mercado Mayorista de Quito (MMQ-EP) issued a statement clarifying that preliminary information indicated the deceased had no employment or commercial ties to the market.
