Armed clash in Zacatecas leaves 5 armed civilians dead after attacking security forces

An armed clash in the municipality of Calera, Zacatecas, left five armed civilians dead on Saturday morning following a direct attack by organized crime members on security forces. The confrontation took place in the vicinity of the community of Río Frío while elements of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) and the Investigative Police (PDI) were conducting patrols.

Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, the general secretary of the Zacatecas government, confirmed the incident. While an initial statement did not specify the number of fatalities, both Mugüerza and prosecutor Cristian Camacho confirmed to EL UNIVERSAL that five aggressors lost their lives during the exchange of fire. The state government has deployed a significant security presence in the area, which borders the state capital, and is continuing the search for other armed individuals involved in the attack.
