Armed trio arrested after chase ends at Culiacán motel

A vehicle-theft prevention operation in Culiacán led to the arrest of three armed people who tried to evade police by entering a motel, authorities said.

The State Preventive Police spotted the occupants near the Central de Abastos market on the southern exit of the city. Officers found two 9 mm pistols, two magazines and 18 live rounds. The suspects had been travelling along Heroico Colegio Militar Avenue and did not obey an order to stop, prompting a brief pursuit.

The three were captured at the motel after federal forces in the area were alerted and military personnel supported the operation. Authorities said the suspects were detained as they got out of a recent-model Honda Civic.

The detainees, weapons and vehicle were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status. The vehicle’s licence plate and registration had not yet been checked, according to the report.
