Army foils kidnap attempt in Kogi, kills terrorist, seizes weapons

Nigerian Army troops successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and neutralized a terrorist in Kogi State during an ambush. The operation, conducted on May 30, 2026, targeted suspected terrorists planning activities in Jakura II Community. Troops intercepted the group at a crossing point along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road, engaging them in a firefight. One terrorist was killed, while others fled with injuries. The army recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier, and mobile phones, which corroborated the group's involvement in local kidnappings. The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has vowed to continue offensive operations against criminal elements. Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, praised the troops' vigilance and efficiency. He reassured residents of the brigade's commitment to security and urged the public to provide actionable intelligence.
