Arsenal pass Chelsea test in style with comeback win

Arsenal made a statement in the Premier League title race by recovering from an early setback to beat Chelsea 2-1 in a high-tempo London derby. Morgan Rogers put Chelsea ahead after just 77 seconds, but Arsenal responded with two well-worked goals.

Kai Havertz equalized after 25 minutes with a low shot after cutting in from the right. Shortly after halftime, Havertz dummied Christos Tzolis’s cross, allowing captain Martin Odegaard to finish a flowing move and put Arsenal ahead.

Chelsea remained dangerous throughout an absorbing match. Pedro Neto struck the post in first-half stoppage time, and substitute Estevao came close to an equalizer late on. David Raya made an outstanding save to preserve Arsenal’s lead.

The victory put Arsenal level with Manchester City at the top of the table, with both teams on nine points after three matches. Chelsea stayed on six. Their defeat extended a winless run against Arsenal to 12 matches in all competitions.

Chelsea had opened the season with an attacking style under new manager Xabi Alonso and had been viewed as possible title rivals. Their summer rebuild brought 11 new players and saw 17 leave, while Arsenal kept greater stability during the offseason. Arsenal conceded their first goal of the campaign in the match, leaving promoted Hull City with the only perfect defensive record after three games.
