Arsenal sign Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle

Arsenal has officially announced the signing of Brazilian international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, securing him on a long-term contract. The 28-year-old midfielder arrives at the Emirates Stadium after a successful four-and-a-half-year spell at Newcastle, where he amassed nearly 200 appearances.

Guimaraes played a pivotal role in Newcastle's Carabao Cup triumph in 2025 and was crucial in the team's qualification for the UEFA Champions League over two seasons. His career began in Brazil with Audax in 2015, followed by a move to Athletico Paranaense, where he won four major trophies. He then transferred to French club Lyon in January 2020 before making the switch to Newcastle in January 2022.

At the international level, Guimaraes boasts 48 appearances for Brazil, having represented his country in the FIFA World Cup and Copa America, and winning a gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. His versatility allows him to play as a defensive midfielder or in a box-to-box role.

Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, stating that Guimaraes will significantly strengthen the team's midfield. Berta highlighted Guimaraes' ability to combine "quality with quantity," noting his consistent contributions of goals and assists. The midfielder's arrival is expected to provide manager Mikel Arteta with more options to develop Arsenal's playing style and increase competition within the squad. Guimaraes will wear the number 39 shirt and is available for immediate selection, pending the completion of regulatory processes.
