Arsenal thrash Manchester City 3-0 to win Community Shield

Arsenal kicked off the 2026/2027 season with a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester City, claiming the Community Shield title. The match, held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, saw Arsenal's offense overwhelm the City defense from early on.

Myles Lewis-Skelly's precise pass just 23 seconds into the game set up Riccardo Calafiori for the opening goal against goalkeeper Gianluig Donnarumma. Arsenal extended their lead in the 28th minute when Kai Havertz headed in a second goal, exposing defensive errors by City. Despite these setbacks, Manchester City, managed by Enzo Maresca, created some offensive chances, but Erling Haaland's attempts were thwarted by Arsenal's goalkeeper David Raya.

The second half dashed any hopes of a comeback for Manchester City. Christos Tzolis assisted Martin Odegaard in the 48th minute, who skillfully evaded Josko Gvardiol before calmly scoring Arsenal's third goal, leaving Donnarumma on the ground. The crowd at the stadium cheered "ole" with every Arsenal possession as the team controlled the second half.

Following this final test before the transfer window closes, Arsenal is set to play newly promoted Coventry City in their Premier League opener on Friday, August 21. Manchester City will start their league season against Bournemouth on Sunday, August 23.
