Artificial Turf Identified in Norwegian Doping Case, But Mystery Lingers

Antidoping Norge has dedicated substantial resources to unraveling a doping case that became a global headline last year. The investigation initially pointed to artificial turf as the source of the banned substance, but the mystery surrounding the case persists.

Despite extensive efforts, the exact circumstances and transmission route remain elusive. Geir Holden of Antidoping Norge noted that direct traces of the substance were not detected immediately after potential exposure, such as attending a football match. However, traces were found the following day, complicating the investigation.

"We are still looking for a common thread," Holden stated, indicating the ongoing challenge in establishing a clear link or explanation for the positive doping result. The agency continues its work to understand how the athlete was exposed, despite the initial findings about the artificial turf.
