As NIA Breaks the Gender Barrier

History was made in Nigeria's insurance sector as Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, Managing Director of Rex Insurance Limited, was inaugurated as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA). The NIA, the umbrella body for insurance underwriting companies in Nigeria, has had 26 male presidents in its 55-year existence before Nwachukwu's groundbreaking appointment.

The investiture ceremony, held in Lagos, drew a distinguished gathering of influential individuals. Notable attendees included the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who joined virtually, alongside representatives from the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Governors of Delta State, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, and Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti. The Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, was also present, as were banking titans Mr. Jim Ovia, founder of Zenith Bank Plc, and Mr. Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, who both served as special guests of honor.
