Asher-Smith Equals European Medal Record as Hunt Completes Golden Treble

Dina Asher-Smith has etched her name further into the history books, equaling the record for the most decorated athlete at the European Championships. The British sprinter achieved this milestone by securing a gold medal in the women's 4x100 metres relay on Saturday, bringing her total career tally at the continental championships to 10 medals.

Asher-Smith, alongside teammates Amy Hunt, Success Eduan, and Imani Lansiquot, delivered a flawless performance in Birmingham, clocking a winning time of 42.05 seconds. This victory marks Asher-Smith's seventh European title, adding to her collection of two silver and one bronze medal. She now stands level with Polish sprint legend Irena Szewinska, who also amassed 10 medals between 1966 and 1978.

For Amy Hunt, the relay gold was her third of the championships, having already claimed the 100m and 200m sprint double earlier in the week. Hunt expressed her awe at competing alongside Asher-Smith, calling her the "real life GOAT (greatest of all time)" and highlighting the diverse talents of her teammates, including a midwife and a playwright. Hunt has an opportunity to make history on Sunday by competing in the mixed 4x100m relay, aiming to become the first athlete to win four gold medals at a single edition of the championships.

Britain's medal count at the championships reached 12, with six golds, as they head into the final day of competition. Italy currently leads the medal table with 17 medals.
