Assumption Day travel sees high port traffic despite weather disruptions

Passenger traffic is expected to be high at Greece's Attica ports on Assumption Day, a major holiday, even as strong winds continue to disrupt ferry services.

On Friday, the day before the holiday, a total of 45,229 passengers departed from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio for the islands. This marked the peak of departures for the three-day Assumption Day weekend.

The majority of Saturday morning's departures were concentrated at the port of Piraeus. However, departure bans were in effect until 1 p.m. at Rafina and Lavrio due to the adverse weather. If conditions improve as expected and restrictions are lifted, passenger traffic is anticipated to increase significantly at these two ports as travelers head to the Aegean islands.

At Piraeus, scheduled bookings indicated a total of 21,893 passengers. However, due to the unfavorable weather, the "Blue Star Paros" ferry to Syros, Tinos, and Mykonos, and the "Super Speed Jet 4" to Paros, Naxos, and Koufonisi were canceled. Similar disruptions affected Rafina and Lavrio, with passengers urged to contact ferry operators and port authorities for the latest updates.
