Aston Villa signs Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea to boost attack

Aston Villa has bolstered its attacking options by signing Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea on a permanent transfer. The Premier League club announced the deal Friday, emphasizing the need to strengthen their frontline after several high-profile departures.

British media reported that Villa paid Chelsea an initial sum of 47.5 million pounds, with an additional 17.5 million pounds in add-ons for the 25-year-old. Jackson, who has 37 caps for Senegal and represented his country in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, previously played under Aston Villa manager Unai Emery at Villarreal. There, he scored 12 goals in 26 LaLiga matches during the 2022-23 season.

Jackson joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023, scoring 30 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions. He also helped the London club win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, his finishing was often a point of contention among supporters. Last season, he was on loan at Bayern Munich, where he scored 11 goals and won the Bundesliga and German Cup.

The signing addresses Villa's need for firepower, especially with the departure of Morgan Rogers, who moved to Chelsea for a British transfer record fee. Striker Ollie Watkins is also expected to join Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal. Villa, who qualified for the Champions League after a top-four finish last season and won the Europa League, has been compelled to sell players due to financial regulations. Defenders Ezri Konsa and Youri Tielemans have also moved to Arsenal and Manchester United, respectively. Villa's Premier League campaign began with a 4-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, and they are set to host champions Arsenal next.
