At Jewish Republican summit, GOP casts midterms as a battle against DSA

Republicans gathered at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual convention presented November’s midterm elections as a fight against the Democratic Socialists of America, not simply against the Democratic Party.

Joe Gruters, chairman of the Republican National Committee, told attendees that a Democratic majority would be “a direct threat to the Jewish community.” He said the Democrats in charge would not be moderates who sometimes oppose antisemitism, but “the Squad” and the DSA.

Ed Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL who defeated Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie in a Republican primary in May, described the election as a contest between “the Constitution versus the Communist Manifesto.” Georgia Representative Mike Collins, who is challenging Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, accused Ossoff of using the race as a platform for a 2028 presidential campaign as “the DSA candidate.” Ossoff has repeatedly denied interest in running and is neither a DSA member nor endorsed by the group.

The convention’s WiFi password, “DSA=AntiUSA”, reinforced the event’s message. Speakers pointed to recent primary victories by DSA members and DSA-backed candidates, saying the group’s influence was growing inside the Democratic Party. The number of House members endorsed by a DSA chapter could rise from two to seven after the November elections.

Speakers also criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib and streamer Hasan Piker. Florida Representative Randy Fine attacked Muslim politicians in the Democratic Party and said anti-Israel and antisemitic voices exist on both sides, while arguing that Republicans reject them through their actions.
